Paul A. Sarlo

Deputy Majority Leader | Legislative District 36

Bio

Mr. Sarlo was appointed to the Senate in May 2003, following his selection by members of the district Democratic County Committee to fill an unexpired term. He was elected to a full term that November. He is currently Deputy Majority Leader, a position that he has held since 2008. He served as Assistant Majority Leader from 2004-2007. He previously served in the Assembly from 2002-2003.

The senator has been mayor of Wood-Ridge since January 2000 and served on the borough’s council from 1995 to 2000. He was also on the New Jersey Legislative Apportionment Commission from 2010-2011.

Mr. Sarlo is a licensed professional engineer and planner, and a certified municipal engineer.

Senator Sarlo was born in Passaic and attended Wood-Ridge public schools. He received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in civil engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1991 and 1993, respectively.

He and his wife, Concetta, have two sons, Anthony Joseph, born in 2000, and Michael Paul, born in 2004.
