TRENTON – Senator Paul Moriarty issued the following statement in response to Governor Murphy’s State of the State address:
“I am grateful to Governor Murphy for recognizing the importance of Bill S-3695 in addressing the growing concerns surrounding student use of cell phones and social media platforms during school hours. This bill empowers school districts to develop comprehensive policies to ensure students remain focused on their education while safeguarding their well-being.”
“Unrestricted cellphone use in our schools has become a crisis that disrupts learning and negatively affects the mental health of students. Technology plays an integral role in our daily lives, but when misused, it can distract from learning and pose serious risks to students’ mental and emotional health. We are taking a proactive step toward fostering a safer and more productive learning environment by providing schools with the tools they need to create balanced policies.”
“This bill reflects our commitment to maintaining the integrity of the educational experience while adapting to the challenges of the digital age. I look forward to working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to address these priorities.”
